where do you guys get your avatars?

i've been searching for one here for a while now and they all suck. i just did a search in google and nothing links to anything good. i find that a lot of them are too big. how do you find the smaller ones? i don't have any editing software so i need them already shrunk. thanks.

Use a paint program and simple mathematics

The pic has to be relatively small to begin with. Check the properties of the image, it should list the image size, make a note of it. Then copy and paste the image into Microsoft Paint (this program should be automatically installed on your computer). Once its there, go to the "image" dropdown menu and selcect "stretch/skew". Then you just have to calculate the percentage to shrink it by. Once the image is close to 50x50 pixels, place it in the upper left hand corner of the main field and then go back to the "image" dropdown menu, select "attributes" and make the dimensions 50x50. Save it somewhere on your computer and upload it thru the boards options.

Voila!

my own picture... if you have your own pictures you can use those... actually this is my roomates cat and it amuses me to see her lookin so annoyed in this picture... i need things to amuse me while i'm at work....

you can save pretty much any picture you find online by just saving it to your hard drive and then it's up to you to do the sizing....

oh for r420... i actually saw somebody online with an ill mitch cd! thought you might find that amusing... unless you went and bought one... :\

dude, shit keeps saving as bmp format and it doesn't upload. i'm using microsoft paint, then fooling around with the percentages, then typing '50' '50' in the attributes menu, then save, and it keeps coming as a fucking bmp image. wtf am i doing wrong? the image was a gif to begin with.

"Save As..", then when the window pops up, the very last field "Save as type:" lets you choose what type of file you want to save it as. There is a drop down menu, select GIF.

Any more brainbusters??

the drop down menu only has 24bit bmp, 16 bit bmp, etc. no gif.

hmm... no "Graphics Interchange Format" either?? Dang, i dunno then. I run Windows 2000... if you run something else, that may have something to do with it.

Graphics Interchange Format = GIF or .gif

It should let you choose that, if not, i guess your SOL... sorry buddy.
