I just hate his smug arrogance.
Ill admit I liked the Dance from eotb and I think he did some beats on hells winter that were ok. And his label released labor days. So he deserves a nod for that.
I remember some dis track where someone compared his production to a cat walkin across a keyboard. So true most the time. Fan dam was over rated as heeeeeeeeeeeeeell.

but really, I understand not liking his stuff. his voice is kinda wack i think. I like his production very much however. I like the way his drums sound. I like the dirty/noisy production. oh well, to each his own.
to say that he's "talentless" is just incorrect though imo.
end of the day, hate him or love him, and if your a newby to the independent/underground scene..EL-P is crucial in the independent market....was one of the first artists to really push units without radio/video play.
listen to 'we're famous' ...song is too fucking dope

el-p is the devil...he is a cancer to UGHH
and i dont want to hear shit for that comment..its called an OPINION. if you like beats that are overdone and poorly put together.run-on sentences with little to no rhyming than more power to you. its not for me. fantastic damage is quite possibly the worst album i have ever heard. tried time and time again to give it a chance cause of groupies like the ones in this thread who keep talking about how good el-p is. i dont see it. i listen to more UGHH than most and probably listen to my fair share of shit that people think is weak but i draw the line at el-p.
granted he has put together def jux,one of the most prolific ughh labels around but that means nothing when he floods their releases with his horrible production. imagining that lineup of artists on another label is insane, they would actually being making albums to their potential instead of to how far el-p's production takes them. el-p's production is an aquired taste, you either hate it or you love it,therefore you have to do the same with all the releases he puts out.so you end up missing out on a very talented artist cause you arent feeling his production.
so in conclusion...FUCK el-p. not only for sucking himself but making others suck just as bad.

:D First degree is pretty funny.Cannibal Ox's Cold Vein is a classic. Not a bad song in the bunch.Everything the "original's" have put out i have thoroughly enjoyed (Mr.Lif,CanOx,Aesop Rock, and el-p,Company Flow), but not much else off of Def Jux.Even his jazz shit is appealing to me, that High Water Mark with Mat Ship is a worthy listen .Some people can't handle space funk. Some people can't hear a complex ryhme scheme for shit (you can say sole doesn't ryhme sometimes, but not el-p).Some people should just stick to the jiggy jiggy bling bling.

yeah back when fan dam dropped and everyone was raving about it, i was wipin my ass with it, then running over it with a forklift, then putting peanut butter on it and feeding it to my dog, then using the resulting el-p dogshit to make burning shit bags to put on def-jux artists' doorsteps.

#1...you are the biggest groupie i have seen come through this site in a long time
#2...where did i say cold vein was weak? one of my favorite albums. the one album i think he pulled off his sound.
#3... i have listened to more hip-hop music in my life than you can even begin to comprehend so dont come at me with that generalization about how i listen to bling bling rap and dont understand complex rhyme schemes. thats just a cop-out excuse to justify somebody not liking your favorite rapper...i dont like him, that doesnt make me ignorant to his type of music,it just makes me a person with an opinion...get over it.

i think some of his stuff is really good. i liked delorean toj and a couple other tracks on fan dam. i don't like anything he's done on an aec rock album. didn't like what he did for murs. he's had a few verses i liked and alot that i didn't. not one of my favorited but better than alot.

other than can ox and his solo shit he hasnt been exclusive producer on another def jux release. he's only made a handful or beats for aes rock and murs. he did like 3 on mr.lif. i respect your right to not like him but you cant really blame him for ruining other artists albums. he did like 1 track on bazooka tooth. hat album sucks for other reasons. what album(s) specifically were you referring to just out of curiosity. maybe you know something i dont.
that new mr.lif track prod by el-p is dope. I dont think he sits there and goes "this doesnt sound spacey and wierd enough we cant release it until theres more noise" or anything. I read in an interview that he doesnt even personally like all the tracks on some def jux records.

I had Eric B. and Rakim's PAID IN FULL and the first Run D.M.C. when they first came out on tape (i was probably twelve then). Was into all the earlly ish back at the beginning of the eighties.Africa Bambata, Grand Master & F.F., all that early breaking bragging and boasting stuff ya know.Hip Hop has come a long way. Since the early nineties just been into the underground.Whether it be indie rock or hip hop.Hip hop just has to be more than bragging and bosting these days. There is alot of good shit out there you just have to dig a little bit.Project Blowed , Oldominion, Shapeshifters, NMS (Big Jus & Orko), The League, Some Def Jux (only a few thats why "groupie" makes me laugh), Anticon ,and at least four hundred more hip hop cd's / vinyl in my collection.Like i said i am more expansive than just hip hop (dub, laptop,a little indie rock, jazz), but hip hop has occupied much of my childhood and still keeps me going. But all this crap on mtv is all about the fake gangster wannabejustlikehonky (gold-digging) bullshit that i just can't fell.I'm more about the collapse of the fake ass world.Thats the hip hop that i can fell.El-p isn't the shit ,but he's has the right to speak with confidence, some people call that arrogance.

wow, it's getting emotional in here
i like el-p, always have. I think his production is dope, I've always liked crazy type production that will fuck with your head over jazzy type sleepy stuff. Lyricly (although I seem to be in the minority) I've always been entertained by him. Company Flow's "Little Johnny From the Hospital" or whatever that album was called was really fresh. I like Fantastic Damage, has some really dope songs.
All in all though I guess I have to be in the right mood to listen to El-P's stuff though, don't think I'd throw it on on a sunny afternoon while I'm chillin in the sun or anything trying to relax.
