As most of you know, because I always mention it, I've been deployed in Kuwait for the past six months, and unfortunately I have another six months to go before I go back to Oregon.
Anyways, I have been COMPLETELY out of music since coming to this country. I can't download shit, and as you could guess, there aren't many music stores around that I can hang up.
So whenever I find a CD in my neighborhood friendly PX, I buy that shit right away... I've been starving for new music for a long time...
These are what I've been able to buy while out here:
Ghostface - Fishscales
Hi Tek - Hiteknology
Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
Wu Tang Meets the Indie Culture
Atmosphere - You Can't Believe...
and I just bought today! Murs & 9th Wonder - Murray's Revenge.
Which is pretty dope so far, and I'm on track three...
Anyways, just thought I'd share with ya'll my excitement at buying Murray's Revenge from an Army PX in the Middle East.

And last night I found Aceyalone & RJD2 - Magnificent City.
Thank God all of these independent acts are getting pretty good distribution... for my benefit, at least.

at least the military will give yall something besides porn now
Cuba Gorilla

Porn? Never that.
Since we are in a part of the world were the majority of the people are of the Islamic faith, we are supposed to "observe their customs and beliefs." For one thing, they do not drink alcohol, nor do they like porn.
So you're stuck in a hot ass part of the world, getting shot out, without any porn or at least something to drink. Pretty tight, huh?

Yea, my brother said porn was a big deal if you got caught with it on his base. That sucks ass. But he said you guys can do the whole, "Pretend porn" with Maxim and mags like that.

Eamon, u heard of the NEX? (Naval Exchange) It's the same thing. Its like Walmart or Target, but on a military base. Army has PX (Post Exchange). Air Force has BX (Base Exchange). Its all the same. Theyre all owned and supported by AAFES.
So to sum it up... yea, its Walmart.

i had never heard of any of those things...but i get the idea of it...thanks.

What's funny is how AAFES says that you save money by buying through them, because they do not have a sales tax, but when you're from a state (Oregon) that does not have sales tax already, you're really not saving anything.
But whatever. They're the only place to actually buy shit for miles upon miles, so it's not like they have any competition for their business.
Ha! Sort of like KBR.

yea, and how the commisary is supposed to be tax free too, but they have a "surcharge" added to your bill when you check out. wtf is that all about?
Cuba Gorilla

Like a Circle K, we're paying for the convenience.
"Hm, do I buy the carton of eggs at the commisary, or do I go off post?"
Thanks God I'm a guardsman... I only have to play Army every once in a while, and of course for deployments. ;)

The Coup - Pick A Bigger Weapon :p
This is fucking dope. I should have bought this a few months ago, when I first spotted a couple copies sitting at the PX. Definitely a quality record, I could bump this shit in the car for sure.
Pam the Funktress makes some pretty, well, funky beats. And Boots Riley kind of reminds me of... on some tracks, a lot like Busdriver (see: We Are the Ones) and on others, sort of like Big Boi (see: Captain Sterling's Little Problem).
Quality music this be. Argh.

Boot Camp Clik - The Last Stand
The beats... why are the majority so lackluster? 9th Wonder's tracks all standout to me, and a handful of others do too, but I would have to say that half of the album just sounds kind of boring. All of the MCs come correct, especially Sean P and Buckshot, but the beats people! The beats! :(

humor me for a minute...the intro with Busta...your thoughts:cool:

how many times must you bring this up???!!!!!
for any and all people who don't like the "first song" on the shining it's an intro, not supposed to be a "hey hey, you know my steez, my name is busta get down with jay deez" type shit. it's a fucking intro. why did he chooce busta? cause he needed a dope fucking opener to get people hype for the album.
if they had a shining "show" and Busta opened up with this, you know your asses would get hype for that. if not then i don't know what makes you excited to begin with. maybe some pixie sticks.
anyone who "hates the intro" please read the first three paragraphs of this (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14587861/from/ET/) article.
that is all.

I don't remember asking you evs:cool: That comment was directed to Cuba Gorilla, who just recently discovered The Shining...I'd like to hear his thoughts on that...but I had a sneaking suspicion that you were going to read this and I was gonna get a rise out of you.
