THE STATE OF THE FRESH BRAND-NEW FUNK/SOUL/HIPHOP MOVEMENT
Thursday, December 15, 2005: We apologize for missing last week, but we are back and we want to help… Let us here at The AirGraFx Shop help you produce your shows. If you are planning a great show, featuring at least three great major, modern-day, Hiphop recording artists. Let’s just say, as a hypothetical example: Gang Starr, Jedi Mind Tricks and Dr.oop. First, after you have a nice venue with a PERFECT sound system, you need a real Hiphop/soul/fresh brand new funk DJ who can play NEW Hiphop records that are GOOD (good new Hiphop records are EXTREMELY difficult to find, and I know hardly ANY DJ’s in LA who can find, and, who play these records). I might be able to think of five real DJ’s who can play fresh NEW Hiphop music for at least 30-to-60 minutes straight, without making my funky dick go limp,… without totally killing the funky vibe and groove. The DJ (or DJ’s) should be able to keep the crowd in a funky groove (with Hiphop records, post-1980) until at least 10:30 p.m. Make sure they do not think they can play and show off their extensive old funk-soul records all night and impress a Gang Starr crowd. Maybe if this was 1998 and it’s Kutmasta Kurt and Pete Rock going back-and-forth, that would be fresh. If you want to have an amateur opening act, let them perform for, at the most, 20 minutes, from 10:30 p.m. to 10:40 p.m (not 45 minutes). Your house DJ should be ready to drop his/her heaviest brand new funk records at this point, building the energy for Dr.oop to open the major performances of the night, starting at 11:30 p.m. The house MC of the night should introduce the first major opening act and Dr.oop should have a 30 minute set (he should not be put on stage after midnight and asked to perform a SHORT abbreviated set, for his angry fans…), ending at midnight. Again, the house DJ should drop an extremely fresh beat/instrumental while the MC of the night introduces the second major artist, and Jedi Mind Tricks should perform till 12:45 (not a SHORT 15 minute set and rushed off the stage for the angry fans yelling for Gang Starr). Gang Starr should be introduced to perform as long as they want, at least 45 minutes (not a short set because everything was pushed back for the wack opening act and DJ who cannot play new fresh Hiphop records). This way, everybody gets what they came for… Tonight at the Knitting Factory, Chino XL has a rare LA performance, and AC The Program Director is the selector for the evening, so the energy should be high. Doors open at 8 p.m. … Since we have opened up here at The AirGraFx Shop, and since we launched the 24-hour radio station from www.HiphopPhilosophy.com, we see and feel you biters working overtime, planning your next play in the ‘game’. We have been here since 1981, and we will be here forever.. You will always be suckers, trying to take credit for what you are not… ...coming soon from www.HiphopPhilosophy.com radio, the Official Legendary Lethal Rhyme Inspector Percee P Radio Show, plus much more. The station is brand new and basically operating under construction... so stay tuned to the evolution and making of history. This is the first Hiphop radio station that recognizes the difference between Hiphop/soul/fresh brand new funk and it's imitation, pop/rap music... and the unwritten Hiphop laws, such as NO BITING!!!!! The original!!!! We have never been about business... We are a community service... When you come to the shop, and when you hear the radio station, it is clear, we are all about the funk, not the business... Oh, and for great Christmas gift ideas, for Hiphop fans, the HiphopPhilosophy.com t-shirts/hoodies/tanks/beanies and mixtape/CD’s can’t be beat. Give your Hiphop family and friends a gift you know they will like… Till next week, f-ck you biters!!!

Wednesday, November 30: Sean Healey Promotions is throwing a Guru show at the Viper Room on December 7, the same night of the MF Doom-Count Bass D-John Robinson show at the El Rey. Who was the genius who booked that show on that night…? Luckily for anybody who wants to see Guru, he will be performing Friday, Dec. 9, at the Normandie Casino, BUT, the geniuses as Sean Healey must not have realized that two other MAJOR shows are also going down on the same night in LA. Chinky Eyed Fridays has their Funkdoobiest-Sabac-Mr.Hyde show that night at the Knitting Factory, and the Masta Ace show is poppin’ off that night in Westminster… Check www.LAHiphopCalendar.com for complete show info… Oh, well we just got a letter about another Guru show: “LIVE DEC.4TH, ALL ZULU’S ARE INVITED TO COME AND HANG DEC. 4TH, AT WHAT THEY’RE CALLING THE 1ST LA ZULU NIGHT OUT. SO FOR ANY ZULU'S THAT ARE OVER 21 OR HAVE A GOOD FAKE ID (SORRY THIS SPOT IS 21 & OVER), AND WOULD LIKE TO COME SEE "GURU" LIVE(THE VOICE OF GANG STARR)@ HIP HOP LEGENDS NIGHT AT JAMAICAN GOLD, I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO COMEOUT IN FORCE AND GEARED IN THERE MEDALLIONS AND ZULU WEAR IF YOU HAVE THEM!!! JAMAICAN GOLD IS LOCATED INSIDE THE CENTURY CLUB @ 10131 CONSTELLATION BLVD IN CENTURY CITY. FIGURE A GOOD TIME TO AIM TO BE THERE IS 10:30PM.”… Real DJ's recognize fresh new Hiphop... Like people who dissed Time Machine, Jedi Mind Tricks, Necro, PUTS, Edan... but now give them credit… they don't have the ability, in their current evolution as a human being (like they may once have had), to recognize fresh brand new heavy heavy funk and/or it's new pioneers... They are stuck with some kind of ear-block... stopped growing with and keeping up with the funk, so they diss the real... They might still have some soul, but the 'game' has made them see new funk pioneers as 'newjacks' who can't possibly be the new manifestation of the real... they treat them basically as competition, most of the time... They might still be a reflection of the funk they used to be, but they are basically dilluted and polluted from the 'game' and its disregard for the funk... Some of these newer funk pioneers may already be starting to lose 'IT', and there are other new artists doin it... and when they come out, real recognize real... As for this wax vs. computers talk: It doesn't matter what clubs you use, it's the golfer... So, suckers who don't have a real DJ's ear get RECOGNIZED and IDENTIFIED as sucker DJ's within the first five to ten records/songs... He/she will pull out a catchy played-out 12" single(from their computer files) before long, then bam! They are busted... Give somebody our whole record collection on their MP3 files; they will not play the same selection... They will play like a sucker... That’s all we got to say about that… Short and sweet this week, and we can’t wait for the December 7 show at the El Rey…
