actually lb's going to be getting 4 1/2 mics, but i think a big part of that has to do with what went down and the public resignation of the review editor.

from my understanding, lil kim and lil bro are both under atlantic records. it would be too fishy to have 2 recording artists from the same recording company to both get high ratings, so lil bro ended up being shafted cause lil kim was going to get a high rating no matter what.

what happened to the days of the source when a not so well known artist like nas was given the prestigious 5 mic honor, showing that the source was willing to push new artists. i dont even bother with the source anymore. i'll check it out every now and then, but i do it more as a study on popular culture. and even though i know how discredible the source is, i do know that a magazine like this still gets a lot of readers and influences a huge portion of the hip hop audience.

It has to be the source, lately they always have given wack artists high ratings due to popular belief and NOT actaully rating the individual.....when it comes to underground/ real rap artists, they give that shit a lower rating cuz its not THAT important to them/.....at least the way I look at it

the state of hip hop may suck, this statement can be argued. but there's no doubt in my mind that the source sucks. the politics that they have played themselves, post benzino having a greater control over the magazine, made the magazines credibility drop tremendously. during the days of the mindsquad, the magazine had a pretty decent reputation for providing the hip hop generation with insight about the hip hop politics, but all it has become now is a forum for ray benzino and david mays to display their own particular agenda, ie discrediting many names in hip hop (whether i care about these artists doesnt matter, but a credible publication should know the difference in providing the public with investigative journalism vs calling out a witch hunt) and failing to give artists their proper dues with record reviews and magazine coverage.

Some of you guys are acting like The Source has been good in recent memory...The Source has been fucked for years, its really no surprise at all. I think the most decent magazine out there (for hip hop) is XXL, and they aren't even THAT good.
