I was pretty disappointed in that album... Respect Life is a dope song but it's on an Electric Company 12". There was one other song I liked on there, Security maybe, but I wasn't really feeling the majority of it.

I find his beats to be.... how do the kids say it? "slumping"
The L Da Headtoucha jawnathan's are worth it alone.

Some people should stop from using slang that they've only heard of via a messageboard and/or song..Rule of thumb..If NONE of your friends/people you hang with use the word(s), then that slang should not be used by you..

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I always find it amusing that 'fam is so quick to school somebody when it comes to slanguage/netiquette/opinions/life in general..Must be the dick in him..

What you fail to grasp is that i'm the bringer of slag to the people i "hang out with". If i hear it in a song, chances are.... it's "okay" for me to use.
The only rules to slanguage are that you cannot use region-specific slang if you are not in that region.
For example, i could not say "hyphy" and/or "relly".
But i can say "slump" as much as i damn well please.

wrong. the only slang you are permitted to use is:
y'all
howdy
pop
that's all i can think of right now.

As far as I'm aware, "slump" is a bay area term as well..
This wasn't really directed towards you..Moreso 'life, who just a few years ago was saying "awesome", "totally", "rad", etc. while hanging on the beach..
BTW..I am going to say that 'life definitely didn't "pwn" me..He's gotta come better than that..

you remind of the murs line from that worldwide underground track that goes something along the lines of, "actin' too hard to have a good time, n****s ain't never smiled at a show in a long time prolly since the fresh prince was in style..." or however it goes.
which is all fine and dandy, it just gets annoying after many many years of trying to converse in a civil manner.
you're also prolly that dude in the office nobody ever talks to in fear of making it to your 'hit list.'
lighten up, du'.

one thing i will agree w/ 'fam on is the unpermissable use of this term UNLESS you are in fact a crip member. same goes with c-walking.

oh, i can take the heat. it's just annoying sometimes when you act like debbie downer. and you're pretty much like that most of the time. but maybe i'm not picking up the sarcasm sometimes, but it does seem like a lot of the time you are serious when you put people down, time after time.
but i guess that's just your personality. basically...

You caught (Dr.) Philling's.

and you can't forget mike moseley.. but that type of music is more commonly referred to as "mob." i think anyone who feels the basic essence of a word like "slump" and uses it in a correct context can say whatever they want to.. whether or not it makes them look/sound stupid is in the eye of the beholder.
and i don't think "slump" is bay area-specific.. it may have roots in the south.. like much bay area slang does.

I don't know about this. 'Cuz' was a term thrown around a lot when I was growing up. It only became taboo when the gang bangers adopted it not too long after banging had spread through here. Not sure if it had always been associated with crips, but I heard a lot of older heads say it as a youngster.

exactly.. even around parts of the bay "cuz" and "blood" were and still are considered non-gang-related slang.. non-racially exclusive terms of endearment.. i've talked to bangers from so.cal who are aware of the differences.. it's all about family.. now if a gang started calling themselves "the familia" or "the folks" (there prolly already is), would these terms all of a sudden become the sole property of gangsters? i hope not. gangs have been around a long time, but families have been around longer.. not to say gangs aren't family.. but not all family is gang-related.
