what do u guys think about hip hop emcees gettin down with jungle/drum n' bass?
i.e. busdriver/pheonix orion
I think if it's flavorful, than word. I mean..... i enjoy Drum and Bass, but i can't stand jungle... it has to be warm.... jazzy, you know? But as long as it's creative and original (i.e. Amp Live's drum and bass approach) than more power to 'em.
i like it a lot better than hearing drum/bass or jungle mc's.. rather hear a real mc hold it down than someone w/a fake rasta flow saying the same shit over and over..

the best fusion of the two styles I've heard so far has been with Orko...
Yeah, I'd rather hear some female singing some smooth vocals over a jungle/d&b track then these jungle emcees in their northface parkas, beastie boys style caps, and timberland backpacks doin' their jumpnshoutwickedstylee shit. Jamalski was pretty fuckin raw though.

Anybody heard that Tajai EP? I heard it was produced by a Drum'n'Bass/Jungle producer. I wanted to check it out but it's about $15 at the only store that has it in stock - and I'm not paying that much for an EP, espcially when it might be shitty! But it could also be cool...who knows?

Alslo, MC Conrad for LTJ Bukem's record label.
damn. somebody's into d&b, huh? tc izlam is on some straight up old school shit.. he deejays too right? I met MC Duh at this club in the city, and he thought he was the shit. He was trying to tell me his name, "DUH". I was like "HUH?" "Noo, DUHHH" "NO DUH?" haha.. i guess ya had to be there. The only other ones I've heard or heard of on that list are Busdriva and Phoenix Orion. There's this female d&b emcee/vocalist from the bay who's supposedly dope named The Audio Angel, but I've never actually heard her shit.

Well, nowyouknow where i swiped my screen name from ;)! I used to spin Jungle DnB for a few years... been into it since about 99' but I don't hear it much anymore in the Bay, except from my buddy who still spins it. Don't forget Mc Posi D and Mac 2 (or some shit like that... MC's for Dieselboy), also I've seen Ak 1200 Mc as well. I think Jamalski is by far the best Jungle MC...
anyhow, i've been in the airport all day so i'm tired, and thinking of changing my signature at the bottom. Ahh, i know what to put.
Reeeewiind Selekta! j/k,
i love hip hop

peace wrecks some jungle on the unreleased album "megabyte" and it's definitely better than most other MC i've heard rap over jungle. remember when zion i broke out the jungle track on inner light? it was pretty fresh then, but the best jungle is slow westcoast rap mixed with fast euro-jazz-jungle shit like plug, amon tobin, squarepusher, etc. mikah 9 and peace i guess used to hold it down at that club thing concrete jungle. any of you ever catch that? i'm not real into that jungle that's like house with one break beat. i like rollin shit, old school shit. or new school shit that you can't dance to. yes.

the stuff that my band and I do is like that. It has drum n bass influences, but it always returns to the essence of hip hop. you can peep some of it in the link in my sig.

Nothin wrong with tryin it out. Ive heard good and bad shit mixed with these two genres, it just depends on your taste i guess. I dont mind dnb sometimes, it just depends on my mood.

I'd have to agree with Gunther.. MURS with the double time was tight.. but for the most part, it sounds sick when they use their regular flows over the jungle beats. Has anybody heard the Squarepusher remixes of "Carried by 6.." from a few years ago? HEAT.

i'm not down with drum and bass, i haven't even heard much of it. I do know one thing tho, i bought Phoenix Orion, 3080 FLUX - it's GARGABE, straight CRAP. i'm not feling it at all. He was trippin getting Sydicate to do the production. i don't know if hes repected in the drum and bass industry, but his production is lifeless and sounds like doo-doo. How is he gonna diss the Deltron shit and then drop that - he got ripped, and Automators production is so funkier and much more creative.

actually i would have to agree with you, im not feelin phonix orion at all. hip hop wise or drum n bass wise.
i personally think hes a biter to the fullest.
but thats just my opinion so dont knock me for that.
i think when it comes to mc'in to drum and bass you have to know a little about it, u have to know about buildups, and basslines, and so on... you gotta hype up the crowd and actually flow along with the track. u cant just sit on the mic and blab on and on, u gotta know when to shut up and let the song go at the right times.
but anyways, some of my friends dont like drum and bass, theyre mostly into hip hop. they think it sounds weird. i duno i just love the bass and the urban feel of it. im all for ragga, which is like a raggae/hip hop style drum and bass and it doesnt sound all electronic so to say.

Yea, im pretty new to mixing, but i like fuckin around with mixing some hip hop with dnb. Im not saying most of it comes off tight, but its fun to screw around with.

It's no harder than spinning house or any other techno.... simple 32 count..... quantised drums, so you know that shit'll match up.....
Spinning jazz is hard.
