So, I got Acey's new album and at first I was fairly impressed. I mean, it's definately better than "Accepted Eclectic", but he's definately not doing shit like he was up through ABOHL/A-Team/Haiku d'Etat (I don't remember which was recorded last). There's some really good songs on "Hip Hop And The World...", but for the most part he doesn't have that "Acey flow". I think a big part of it is the production - Elusive's beats just aren't right for Acey's flow. The other thing I gotta pick on is how Acey uses songs that have been previously released on his albums - I hate this, it's a cop-out to stretch the length of an album. And "Future Rockers" is a suck-ass song to begin with, so why he re-used it is beyond me. Anyway, when I listen to "To Whom It May Concern..." and the last tracks rolls around with "We will never fall the fuck off, we promise" I always think that the promose has been broken - sure, Acey's still one of the tops, but he's fallen off from the heights he was previously at.
On a related note: I think Acey and Ab should do WAY more shit together. I think these are the two MCs that are most lethal when put together. I been listening to all my old Acey, Blowed, Haiku, A-Team, etc, and I don't think they've made one song together that ISN'T bangin, while they've both made many songs on their own that are close to doodoo. I dare you, list a duet with a better Win/Lose record than Acey and Ab Rude...
