ABOUT NINE:FIFTEEN
Nine:Fifteen (a duo consisting of MC Comel_15 of Time Machine and DJ/Producer Blake9) are back with their second 12-inch release on Candle Wax Records, “Deluxe Laminated”. Another undeniably raw, full-.avored hip hop single from the label quickly establishing itself amongst the indie-elite, the three track single sees Blake9 laying down some gritty bangers from his trusty SP1200 while Comel_15 provides clever wordplay and a dose of reality with a buttery flow.
If you picked up either Nine:Fifteen’s debut single, “Spilt Milk,” or 7-inch rarity “Say What,” then you know what time it is. Receiving reviews in magazines like the Inner Loop, Splendid, and being featured in the “highlights” section of Stealth magazine, these two are creating a buzz in the underground. Australia’s Stealth magazine wrote “I’m sure [even] M.O.P. would have a soft spot for this lunacy”. Fellow Time Machine member Jaysonic joins the crew on “Freak Out”; a hard-hitting, mysterious beat, featuring a comedic outlook on paranoia, embarrassment and above all -- “freaking out”. “No Stylegia” provides a bittersweet yearning for things of the past, while Comel_15 remembers when he penned some of his illest
rhymes. “You Deserve Less” is a mellow joint that reminds us of how we should be thankful for all of our opportunities. The B-side offers instrumentals of all three tracks, as well as an exclusive Blake9 bonus beat.
Blake9 has released three successful 7inch collaborations with Time Machine crew members Jaysonic, Comel, and Stoerok, all on Candle Wax Records’ previous incarnation, Irish CarBomb Music (ICB). Candle Wax has continued the ICB legacy by releasing the “Spilt Milk” 12-inch, as well as a 7-inch recording from Bay Area musicians Olive Green in 2004. In 2005 Candle Wax Records will persist in broadening underground hip hop horizons with their releases. To Be Continued…
