View Full Version : Original Concepts.

Is there anything original left to write about? Or is it all about perspective now?

I notice when i am writing a verse, it's like "been done before"... regardless of the topic or subject matter. But if you place a new perspective on it, it comes off original.

But other than twisting the view point, what hasn't been written about yet?

Pardon the T.Striker natur eof the post. Just a thought that crossed my mindpiece.

No but there should be plenty of unspoken concepts out there. Maybe you just have writers block?? I dont know your writing style or what sort of shit you like to talk about so I cant seriously suggest anything.

I'm not really looking for suggestions.
It was just a dumb observation.

I guess thats why songwriters are so metaphorical.

Hahahaha

S = Theo??

I dunno, I think that a lot about everything I see or hear really... "Its all been done before." I dunno, just write what flows, you can always try to put a twist on it. It's inevitable though I suppose, maybe everythign has been done  . okay, i don't know what i'm talking about now. later skaters

i've never heard a song that correlates the rise and the fall of the third reich in the context of the fise and fall in rollerblading's popularity.

serious suggestion- travel outside of your established circle. go out of your way to go out of the way. in otherwords, your writer's block is most likely a reflection of deeper feelings of complacency. i don't really write but i definitely feel less creative if i draw off of the same influence/experiences constantly. listen to some music you might never regularly listen to or maybe make an effort not to listen to anything. just a suggestion.

you're excused/..

man, I got like fifteen writing styles..when I actually wanna sit down and write.

what I do...is..some of em..
I gather up some ego..and think.

"Man, I don't like hating..but there's some people out there, that are just spittin some bull shit..so I write for them..

and I think too..
if you've lived a full life..
then you're experiences that reflect from that life, are original..period. I mean, unless you're life was about following..but then you most likely wouldn't have ended up as a writer..
I don't know what I'm saying really..
who say's it's innovation not CREATION..? i guess too, it all depends on how GOOD you are too.

but you said awhile back..something along the lines of what does an artist themselves have to do with artists' music,
and I kinda struck me cuz if it's not you up there, machinegunnin you with words..then who is it..and why the fuck would I wanna hear you tell "his/her" story..you know..so I think..
whatever you're saying...even if someone said it a hundred..if you say in a line..
I grip the mic, just as hard as I like...
something something you know..if someone else said it..whateves..
are you doing it for real..or fronting..that's all...
Tedward Stevens
ps..this was a bad idea

Yes, S... There are no original topics, only original takes on things. And original perspectives only go so far; otherwise, people would have no fans.

And remember, "There is nothing new under the sun." That's always true.

life experiences are always original. cuz it's your point of view or situations in your life... Which people may be able to relate to but it's not the same as everybody else...

yeah, but even though your personal life is unique, the concept of it is not.

It sure would... In fact, S..'s posts on this forum would provide a wealth of material even more prolific than 2Pac's discography. He could do songs about his strange sealife fetish or his infatuation with the word "sausage."

or his sensitivity to internet criticism... or obsession with posting on internet message boards... fuck it he could do a whole song about the internet.

I think that's the key, having a rich life outside of music. Sometimes you can try too hard to make music and you end up not being able to see the forest for the trees. When I put sets together nowadays I put in the time, but I also don't force it. Put in a few hours, then kick back, maybe go for a walk or go over to my boys' house and drink a 40. I find it keeps me a lot fresher and more inspired than just making myself grind away at shit. I had a guitar playing roommate years ago who would lock himself in his room and play the same song all fucking day. That shit makes you regress as both an artist and a person.

As far as Original Concepts (ha ha, I thought this was gonna be an appreciation thread about the band- they were dope), I saw the word "dispatch" yesterday and thought how fun it would be to make a dis song about myself if I was an MC. Probably been done before (that slumpin J Zone track where he samples Booger from Soul In The Hole comes to mind), but if you were clever it could be a winner.

there is so much to write on,
it's about the delivery -innovation.

you raise a ineresting (trivial) point tho S...
that in itself is worth articulating.
