I would like to see how you guys have your studio's set up, if you guys have vocal booths, what mic's and gear you guys are all using.
I have always wondered what mic, and preamp was used on gas dreamer/ the way the vocals sound on that are clean. Poltergeist also sounded clean, the way he captures his vocals is superb
I know grouch uses a Nuemann, u87, or u47 or something like that, not sure what preamp though. Also he is using the digi 001, or 002 I am not sure.

yeah, them fools do do it garage-syle.
I once seen em recording under a bridge. Another time i saw them coming outta them public pay toliets. But most often, them fools lay/drop tracks near popular ATM's.
...who cares

There are no studio secrets, everyone shares what they have.
Both Grouch and Eligh use a Neumann U87 mic, Chandler pre-amp (which is a reproduction of a Neve channel strip, i don't remember which model though), and a UA 1176 compressor.
This is probably as good as a vocal set-up as you can get, when you're at this level of equipment, there's a bunch of good options, it's really all preference.

Do you know if that was used on
Gas Dream?

Does this emulate a tube, or is it a tube?
I love that sound, and i'm looking for a hardware solution, as opposed to post-recording tweaking.

Mumford how do you know this?
......I have some insider knowledge...I've recorded at Eligh's and been to Grouch's studio.
All the equipment is pure tube. It is also very expensive. Don't buy cheap tube stuff, it's very noisey. Vocals are crucial and you should definitely invest the most money into the vocal set-up, but we're talking something like $6000-$7000 for this particular set-up.
Class A equipment is the best and what you really need. Avalon makes a really good Class A Tube pre-amp/compressor/eq all in one. It's the Avalon 737sp, if you were getting one piece, I'd get this along with a mic that is at least $500.

Word, i've looked into copping an ART TPS II which runs like $179 new, but it has two channels, which is kind of unnecessary.
Avalon is top notch. The only thingi could afford would be that U5 Direct Box, which is Class A. And it's got low and high level inputs which is nice.
Good look, Mumski.

I just checked out the uad-1 card studio pack.
It's got that preamp, it's 899.99 but you get a list of really good plugs
