I heard they were charging like $45 for tickets to Gangstarr, Com and Kweli, so you definitely made the right call. These fools think they're The Beatles or something? Guru and Common are wack. One can't stop talking about how great he is despite the fact he rode his DJ to stardom, and the other one acts like he'd rather be a male model.

i would definitely want to see that shit. it would be off the hook. $45 is a little steep. i would have no problem dropping around $20 but its all good. Talib is dope. Guru is the shit! whatever you say about he rode his "dj to fame" Guru puts it down. but we all have a right to our own opinions. i dont bump alot of Common but very much respect what he does. that lineup though is classic shit. peace.

yeah, i was thinkin about seeing that show in detroit. too much cash though, and i didn't wanna risk having to listen to some sappy new age shit from Common. What the fuck was he thinkin when he made that lovey dovey song that's always on mtv where he's holding those cue cards? i feel bad hatin on the man who created such a beautiful work as resurrection, but my ears don't like what he's doin now.

As for Guru, he comes correct. Certainly Primo has a lot to do with his success in the rap game, but no one can deny the fact that he has an impeccable flow. Guru rocks primo's beats with a rhyme cadence that is unparalleled by all except Nas.

Anyway, i also would've gone to that show if it were cheaper.

Holy shit IPatch, that's brave. I hate to say it but I agree with you. About Guru that is. Homie just never really grabbed me. People like you and me are black sheep in the gangstarr game. Usually the second you say something bad about Guru, some fan gets their pants wet. You're too right about his lyrics, he is always talking about how dope he is. At least 75% of his songs are about how dope he is. That's weak. Nas is a way better MC than Guru in my opinion. Nas at least kicks something other than "It's the voice, you know I'm so dope, i got more clout than george washington" haha you know?? But Primo gets props for holding down the "hip hop" beats, nobody does it quite like him. He's by no means my favorite producer (Prince Paul is far superior to Pete Rock and Premier in my opinion), but I give him all the respect cuz he definitely has pioneered that style of hip hop production. What I liked about Paul is that not everybody tried to do what he did. In fact, nobody has really come close, even to this day. I've heard a million neo-premier beats. I guess that's what erks me. Gangstarr became the basis for generic hip hop. I preffer shit that's a little more outside the lines. I know I'm babbling but it's because I am sick.

I wish I didn't miss OMD at the Creative Differences tour in Boulder, CO. Glad I caught the Ft. Collins one. Fuck paying 45 dollars for ANY hip hop show. Maybe for a huge Reggae fest or Jazz fest, but hip hop? Shit, it usually sounds better on record. Hahah.

Guru's lyrical depth was never amazing to me. But I can still listen to him because:

- he's got soul
- his voice is unique (although a bit monotonous sometimes)
- i love primo beats. shit i could listen to britney spears of a good primo beat!

i got hooked on Guru a long time ago. I don't listen to his new stuff, but old Gangstarr is just classic. It was some of the best east coast hip hop coming out at the time, so almost everybody liked it. Like Guru says - its mostly the voice.

that's just my point - it's mostly the voice. i'm not real into gimmicks. if you got skills, then kick your skills, if you rely on something other than skills to get by (like the sound of your voice), then i'm most likely not going to be a fan unless i like what you're talking about. and to say i like guru's lyrics would make me a homosexual teeny bopper. i mean, it's common for rappers to have an ego, but there's an invisible line that can be crossed.

oh yeah, and you're right, gangstarr was some of the most popular stuff of their time, but that doesn't mean the best. if most popular were the best, eminem would be considered the greatest rapper fo the now, and i don't agree with that. native tongues held it down way harder than gangstarr in my opinion. all good though, it's all opinions, i just like to argue. haha.

hell yeah, argument for fun's sake...but who would you rather hear rhyming on Moment of Truth? Guru or some other rappers? The tandem makes a team.....

....well, maybe i'd rather hear lateef and kool keith on those trax.....

all i gotta say is..

"I count eenie, meenie, mynie, mo, I pimp the mic like a pimp pimps hoes"....

...."Lemonade was a popular drink, and it still is. I gets more props and stunts than Bruce Willis."

you decide.

Guru definitely used to rhyme his ass off, but his flow fell off after Daily Operation. Hard To Earn is ill, but it's all Primo. For real, I find Guru to be a pompous ass. I was at the 99 DMC Nationals in SF, and he ran up on stage, hyped himself and his gig up, and bounced. The promoter was pissed, saying that he had demanded to be let in for free despite the fact that Qbert and Craze and D Styles and everybody had paid and were chillin in the crowd with the rest of us. Dude could've at least dropped a verse, but he just grabbed the mic, hyped his own ass up and left. No class, and the only bad part of an amazing event. I saw him on a magazine cover last month sporting a tatoo that said "Reputation is the foundation of success" or some similarly stupid shit. Gimme a break...

No shit... Lil Dap is tight though. Livin Proof is probably a top 5 all time album production wise.

I agree, i still knock that album strictly for the beats.

Sometimes it pisses me off thought, that that particular production got wasted on that LP.
