now that is a toughie. I'd consider all four sick of waiting cds to be about equal, although my favorite would have to be sick of waiting tables, simply because its the first sage release I ever bought, and I completely absorbed that shit for a good 2 months straight. Out of the 4 its his best display of raw talent. The production on the known unsoldier is pretty dope, plus the AOI jam in there is prety tight too. that one has the best freestyles on it as well. Sickly business is dope for the assortment of his "shit from '95"...pretty weird to think that was almost 10 years ago...
urine trouble is pretty dope too, but i cant think of anything to say about it.

hope is probably overall his best effort. Personal jounrals is really good if your into the emo kind of stuff. not many people are tho.

Dead Poet Live is completely dope. Now, I may get shit for saying this, but I believe it was definately one of the top 10 releases of 2004 from any genre...I'm not sure if I'd quite classify it as hip hop (only cause of gruvis maltz or however you spell it, they had a tendency to bring out his less hip hop side and his more general musical side, whereas AOI was able to provide a solid backdrop for sage while still letting him do his hip hop thing...I'm bumbed that group don't exist anymore.) , but what ever you wanna call it I like it. It's music, and its good music at that.

Just get the Non Prophets album (him and Joe Beats).

It's called 'Hope.' You'll love it, guaranteed.

my favorite sage album is the one where he babbles on and on about hippie political drivel, and then segways into a song about how he hates his day job and how black MC's don't respect him.

Thats the illest one.

The best one is the unreleased cd where he cries for an hour on tape. Waaay underground. Sooo hip hop.

Non-Prophets - Hope is somewhat listenable If your fucking wasted, just like Terror Squad and Black Eyed Peas.

Or if you've listened to hip hop long enough to know who Nine and the Ultramagnetic MC's are.

In other words, if the first album you purchased was in '98, you probably won't understand all the subtle innuendos and references made on the 'Hope' album.

maybe it's because my copy was burned but the beats on hope just sounded flat to me. it didn't let me get into any of the songs. sage's biggest problem is that he puts out too much material and waters down his good stuff. freestyles and half produced 4 track shit is cool and all but i wish he could salvage more completed tracks per album then what he does.

the sick of waiting cds arent official albums. They are really just promos. If I could dig out one of the cases from my big pile I'd quote it directly, but on the back of all four of em he says something like:

This is for promotional purposes, this is not an official album. This is just a compilation of radio performances, freestyles, and other random stuff that would never be heard otherwise.

Notice how there are no half-finished unmastered one verse songs on his official LPs (Hope, PJ)

i know but when you put out so much sub-par material, people who are unfamiliar with your catalogue are turned off. i understand that he needs new shit to sell on tour but i think alot of the reasons behind the sage hate is the mass amounts of weak material.

I wouldn't say it's weak material. Unpolished, maybe. It's basically Sage's way of doing a mixtape, simple as that. And while I don't enjoy mixtapes that much (including Sage's), I also don't see him putting them out there as a problem. Besides, many people enjoy them.

My instant remedy to not liking his mixtapes? Don't purchase them.
