I just saw this on their site because I was looking for another show that had been advertised about the greatest hip-hop artists of all time or something, and couldn't figure out why Kid Rock was on there as one of them. What has he done? Maybe I'm not in the know, but Kid Rock is garbage.
Anyhow, here is the link to the VH1 page with the info about this Freestlye show called, "Freestyle- The story of underground hip hop"

Ah, here it is, it's called "Hip hop honors" on Tues. Oct 12th.

You can even vote for the new fresh face in hip-hop. They have Jean Grae on there, she's not that new is she? She used to go by the name of MC what? what?
I don't see anything mentioned about Kid Rock on there, but they had him on the commercial. Maybe he was just being interviewed about who his influences were...
Im pretty sure ive seen that film like 3 years ago. Its pretty dope and PSC is interviewed on it.

man, racism's so cool. :D
Kid rock does suck. But he can play every instrument proficiently. And he's a pretty dope DJ.
Again, i can't stand the fool. But, i guess he's "talented"

i watched the second & third parts of the "The history of hiphop: And you don't stop" lastnight..i must say they were pretty entertaining..i think they are replaying the first part again tonight, so im going to try and check it out..the second part detailed hiphop from the mid to late 80s to the early 90s..Def Jam and PE mostly..the 3rd part is about gangsta rap..alot of focus on NWA & Ice T..both were definitely worth checking out..a decent representation of what hiphop was about in the mid 80s to early 90s..

yeah, i think they show the previous episodes prior to the new one that starts at 10:00. so if you missed any of these, you can probably watch the entire series tommorow night starting at 6:00pm.

I knew VH1 would come correct with this.

so i watched 'part one' tonight..i can't say i am impressed..but, there was some good stuff in there..to try and break down 10+ years(mid 70s to mid 80s) in one hour is impossible..but i think vh1, and especially nelson george("hiphop america") and russell simmons, are responsible for the lack of "truth"(for a lack of words) on who the true pioneers were..there is no mention of crash crew, harlem world crew, boogie boys, fearless four, etc..it left out a TON of artists(djs, mcs, graffiti artists, bboys) who had very big impacts on hiphop culture..although i was VERY surpised to see dj aj on there..but, like i said, its hard to do a comprehensive documentary on a decade of culture in one hour..
also watched part 2 again..and i noticed a few things that didnt hit me so much the first time i watched it..i see that russell simmons must have played a very big key in this 5-part series..i also noticed that nelson george is the 'co-exec producer'..so that explains alot of things..he basically feels that anything pre-def jam(ie. run dmc) is pointless..
that said, i still think its a decent representation of the music..especially the 'high record selling' music..its definitely worth checking out..there are some 'non-truths'..but for the most part..its a decent breakdown of where hiphop started and how it expanded into what he know now..
also..i heard a long while back that kurtis blow has been working on a 'history of hiphop' that is supposedly going to blow peoples minds..he got numerous 'pioneers' together to talk and reminisce about the 'history of rap'..as far as i know its done, but kurtis has had trouble getting the funds to get it distributed..its something like 3-4 hours long..hopefully it will be coming out one of these days..

^^^yeah, i think bill adler produced the special... it is pretty biased to def jam
but i'm watching that freestyle special right now, and i almost had to make sure that it was on vh1 and not one of my videos. rifleman, psc, peace, daddy kev, zagu brown, boots riley, and a bunch of other underground heads were in this.
i just finished watching it... it was aight, nothing spectacular. its a pretty old documentary that was made in 2000.

I was kinda let down by this... the previous four chapters were worth watching, but imo the freestyle thing peaked quite a while ago. Supernat vs. Craig G is old news and not the story of "underground" hop hop right now. Giving the producers some love would've been a better move.
