View Full Version : Pre Fuse.....
This opinion is based soley on Vocal Studies/UpRock Narratives...
So, i really honestly used to think this dude was genius on the sampler. But the more i really listen to his music, the more i regret this statement. All he really does is sample needle drops, random vocal stabs and vinyl manipulation and the sequencer in the MPC pretty much does the rest. His style has pretty much allowed him to be void of any harmony or "musicality".... he doesn't really have to pay attention to pitch or anything. It's basically all just sequenced noise. Not on all the cuts, but most of them. The beats he does for rappers are real hot, but his instrumental stuff can pretty much be credited to a solid sequencer and HELLA short samples.....
I don't know. I was just listening to this album and came to this conclusion...... but i haven't heard enough of his shit to really call it i guess.
end rant.
i didn't really get into prefuse until i heard his one word entinguisher album....i'd pretty much written him off as a producer who'd i'd probably never listen to again........but somehting in me made me give him another chance......and it was worth the effort to me........even better than one word extinguisher is "extinguished: the outtakes" which are alternative verisons of songs and b-sides...
i dunno i think he's still a genius, i haven't really heard a lot of producers who do it like him.....he'll have a fresh beat going and then in the middle he'l do the stutter thing (where the time signature changes?)and i go crazy!!!!
if you want some eveen different stuff check out his latest savat h & savalas record....nothing but spanish folk sort of stuff and mellow vibes......dope stuff
scott.
Word scott.....
His beats do keep me listening, because they change so much. But his formula stays the same.... nothing wrong with that, i'd just like to hear more shit from him similar to "Blacklist"... that beat is bananers.
Is he really changing his time sig. though? What i hear is hella track mutes.... to where he drops out everything but a chopped vocal or something......
Being an MPC user, it just seems a lot simpler than people think. 50 samples, all less than a second long, sequenced to where you can nod your head to it.
Ima check out the One Word Extinguisher album just to be sure!

Yeah he takes it to both extremes a lil more on OWE. Some tracks are even choppier than on the first LP, but some are pretty smooth. And yeah the outtakes album is fucking dope- I don't know why he left a lot of those joints off the real album.
You should catch him live S, you'll probably get a new-found appreciation for him.

yip, say what you want. I could waste some time and see what you have to say about him, but waste is nearly a 4 letter word to me. Prefuse could kick your ass on beats like a farmer any day. I'm the hater here, prefuse does have a formula that's easy to hate on, but he does good, totaly tubular, stuff. I know some other producers that hate on him too, he's done murch better things than you have, so... make an album dedicated to dissing him and if he responses you've made an impact, WORD.
PS Prefuse samples Cool Breez, oooooooohhhh, fug wid dat!
